MESSAGING / DELIVERY & NOTIFICATIONS

Messaging Apps.

Messages delayed, calls not connecting or notifications gone quiet? Work out whether the problem is the conversation, the app or the phone before resetting anything.

Three useful places to start

Messages won’t deliver

Check connectivity and whether the problem affects one contact or everyone.

Alerts are missing

Check phone notification permissions and any muted conversation settings.

Chats after reinstalling

Confirm backup availability before removing or switching messaging apps.

Messages, calls and backups

Protect your chats while diagnosing the fault

A delayed message or a silent notification does not automatically mean you need to reinstall a messaging app. Check whether the problem affects one conversation, the account or the whole device, and establish whether your messages are backed up before taking actions that could remove local history.

Messages remain unsent or delayed

Verify the connection, app version and whether other chats work. A message to one contact may be affected by their connectivity or account settings rather than yours. Check for any service interruption through the provider’s official status or support channels. Do not send the same personal information repeatedly while trying to force a delivery.

Notifications have stopped

Inspect the phone’s notification permissions, Focus or Do Not Disturb settings, and mute settings inside the affected conversation. Some apps also restrict background activity depending on device settings. If messages appear when you open the app but alerts are missing, the cause may be notification delivery rather than message loss.

You need to switch phones or reinstall

Check the app’s current backup and migration instructions before changing devices. Not all services sync complete chat history, media or encryption keys automatically. Confirm the recovery method and available storage, and never hand verification codes to anyone offering to transfer the account for you.

Start from the relevant app provider’s official support materials rather than generic recovery offers. Our Phones & Tablets and Apps & Software pages cover adjacent device and account issues. If someone is impersonating support, use the app’s built-in reporting options.

Chat history is not always recoverable after an uninstall or device change. Check each app’s own backup and transfer instructions before taking that step.
