Inbox, delivery and security
Find out where the email problem starts
A missing message, a login error and an email stuck in the outbox are different problems. Before changing your account or deleting messages, verify the email address, check whether your provider is reachable and note whether the same problem appears on another device or in a trusted browser.
A message appears to be missing
Search by sender and subject, then check Spam, Trash, archived mail and relevant filters. Gmail uses labels rather than ordinary folders for some mailbox views. A message that is not in the main inbox may still be in the account. If you use several addresses, verify which one received the message before assuming it was lost.
You cannot sign in or reset the password
Use the provider’s official account-recovery route and verify you are on the real website. A sign-in failure can result from an incorrect password, an account lock, or an app requesting permission. Never share a recovery link, one-time code or backup code with a third party. Contact the provider through its official help pages if you suspect account takeover.
Messages are not sending
See whether the message is in Drafts or Outbox, then check connection quality, attachment size and recipient address. If sending works in webmail but not in a desktop app, investigate that app’s configuration instead of repeatedly changing the email account password. Avoid emailing sensitive documents just to test a delivery issue.
For Gmail-specific information, consult Google’s Gmail Help. If the issue appears only in a browser, visit our Browsers & Web Apps page. Email recovery and provider-specific account issues must be handled through the relevant service.
Never send passwords or one-time sign-in codes to someone claiming they can fix your inbox. If recovery is needed, use your email provider’s official account recovery flow.
