Tablet troubleshooting

Check what is different about the tablet

Tablets share many phone features, but their keyboards, styluses, chargers and multi-user setups can create different problems. First note whether you have an iPad, an Android tablet or a managed school or work device, and whether the symptom appears with or without connected accessories.

Touchscreen or stylus stops responding

Find out whether touch works elsewhere on the screen and whether the problem occurs only in one app. Remove an accessory only if it can be removed safely, and check the manufacturer’s stylus compatibility and charging guidance. A cracked display or swollen battery is a hardware concern; do not press hard on the screen or attempt an improvised repair.

Charging or battery concerns

Use an appropriate charger and inspect the cable for obvious damage. A tablet may charge slowly while a demanding app is running, but severe heat, swelling or a damaged power connector needs professional attention. Note whether the problem occurs across more than one safe power source rather than repeatedly replacing the battery based on a guess.

Apps, Wi-Fi and stored files

Check whether the same account or website works on another device. Confirm any offline documents or artwork are saved before deleting an app. Some tablets are managed by a family, school or employer, so certain controls cannot be changed without authorization. For wireless problems, compare your tablet with another device on the same network.

Use Apple iPad Support for iPad issues or the tablet manufacturer’s support pages for Android models. Browse iPhone Help, Android Help or Buying Guides when those topics are more relevant.
